~Today was opening day of my favorite farmer’s market in downtown Frankfort, IL and I couldn’t be more excited! It was a beautiful sunny day with a slight breeze blowing with opprotunity and the intoxicating scent of freshly made doughnuts.
As I entered the market gazing around the pool of familiar vendors, I made a mad dash to Stamper Cheese Company to get my annual chunk of their delicious goat Gouda. To be honest, it was hard not to jump for joy on the spot haha. It’s the little things 🙂
After purchasing the cheese I looped around the rest of the front half of the market before proceeding down Old Plank Trail to the second half of the market.
The second half of the market is nessled in a parking lot at the entrance of Old Plank Trail before crossing the bike path, and home to more vendors. These are also the vendors where much of the produce is found. Since it’s the beginning of the season there wasn’t much aside from herbs and the occasional asparagus bunch, but there was a vendor that was selling the most beautiful tulips! Tulips are one of my favorite flowers ❤
I picked a half dozen that were all primarily orange with yellow stripes. Next to the tulip guy was Grandma’s Goodies, where I bought my annual jar of their delicious apple butter.
Before leaving the market I got a refreshing mixed berry smoothie with an added scoop of vanilla protein powder. I normally don’t eat smoothies with protein, but since I hadn’t eaten much that morning I figured this would be a good way to fill me up before lunch. The vanilla was a great addition, giving it a more full bodied taste with subtle vanilla notes mixing well with the berries.
Can’t wait to come back next week!
